A good movie I haven't written about yet.

Hello all.

There's a movie out there that should be seen. The movie in question is Velvet Goldmine. It's an interesting story about glam rock in the 70's and focuses on two rockers that more than vaguely resemble Iggy Pop and Bowie as well as a fan turned reporter following Bowie's story 10 years later. I know most people will write this off as an homage to bisexuality...and that it is. However, the production value of this movie is through the roof. The costumes are spot on for the time period...if not even a little more over the top. What really makes the movie though is the music. It's not really a musical so to speak, more like a movie with a bunch of rock video clips. The first time I saw it, I thought the movie was pretty cool, if not a bit disjointed. The music really stood out to me. So, after a few weeks of song snippets floating around in my head, I decided to buy the soundtrack. I was not dissapointed. The songs are quite varied, but the overall feel is very glam rock (in a good way). A bunch of artists contributed to the soundtrack but the ones that stand out are Thom Yorke sp? of Radiohead and members of Sonic Youth. I recommend checking out the album and seeing the movie if you haven't already. Something different in these days of cookie cutter flicks. God Bless IFC.

Don't forget the cool chick that recommended the flick because of her crush on Christian Bale!! I could not find an official web site but found some factoids on the net (Internet Movie Database):

Much of the dialog comes from Oscar Wilde's writings.

When Brian first sees Mandy, he says "Do you jive?" That's what David Bowie is supposed to have said when he first saw his former wife, Angie.

During the Festival sequence where Brian sees Curt perform for the first time, Ewan McGregor was only due to moon the disgruntled crowd. But inspired by the antics of Iggy Pop, he improvised, and ended up gesticulating wildly while flashing the audience, leaping about with his trousers around his ankles.

My favorite:
When Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor were filming their sex scene, the director cut without letting them know, so the two continued to simulate the act until they realized the trick that had been played on them.

The script for the movie "Velvet Goldmine" was based on the book "Stardust: The David Bowie Story," written by Henry Edwards and Tony Zanetta.

Based on the relationship between David Bowie and Iggy Pop. Iggy said he didn't have a problem with the movie being made; Bowie protested, leading to the characters names and certain events being changed.

Apparently there were a lot of flubs also in the movie, mostly consistancy and some anachronisms. See imdb.com.

i had no idea that was supposed to be David Bowie and Iggy Pop!!!

Was Ewan supposed to be Iggy? Cause he sure is a lot hotter than iggy ever was......

Did you see the new Batman? Christian Bale was pretty hot in that as well....but i haven't seen the machinist, since that will probably burst my bubble on his hawtness. i hope he makes another batman - but the movie was set up so that he doesn't - with that cool ending and all.....

The Machinist was pretty cool, if predictable movie. Christian Bale looked like hell in that movie, he was about 120 something pounds. The problem with that movie and Batman is that he comes across too much like his character in American Psycho (one of my most favorite movies of all time by the way). His "Baleness" just comes through to easily, like he can't lose himself in the part. So, while I agree he is pretty cool, I'm not convinced that he's a great actor. I do like him though, so only time will tell.

What's with the chinese? Are you a communist? No, I haven't seen the donkey movie. I have a feeling it's the same one that has been circulating for a long time....some guy trying to corral a donkey and then the donkey tries to hump him and his pants fall down, right?

gay cowboys eating pudding is a reference to south park. on one episode they had an independent film festival in their town and all the movies were about gay cowboys eating pudding. I prefer to refer to poop as fudge.
