I was wondering why Jason picked that exact spot. I could plainly see by the fire and moonlight that it was indeed a ditch of some sort. I just figured that he knew something I didn't.

Do you guys not believe in chopping the wood up before you throw a whole tree on the fire?

Yeah it was a lovely rock filled ditch.....very posturepedic. Actually, it wasn't too bad. I was eyeing the spot where Aaron slept, but his kyak was already there. Amber, what exactly were we going to chop the wood with? The chainsaw that I strapped to my kyak? We broke down what we could by hand and just fed the larger ones into the fire gradually.

Uh, yeah, well, I guess mancamp has nothing to do with actually being prepared to camp out. What we usually do when we camp is find firewood that is either small enough to burn or stuff that you can break up.
I can't explain to you the dangers of just throwing a whole fucking tree in the fire, but then, what do I know, I'm a girl and my opinion doesn't count.

Wow Amber. Firstly I'm just astonished that you think you know more about building a campfire than even Jason. Just baffled! Do you really think we just uprooted a whole tree?

Secondly, where exactly was Elwess supposed to put that chainsaw? If you'll notice in the embarkation picture...what's on the kayaks is all we took down the river because it was all we needed.

I never said anything about a chainsaw dude.
And yes, I do know quite a bit about campfires, I grew up in Colo. going camping a lot, with my dad the caver, to place that had no trees, so I do know something about it.
I'm sure you found the tree lying around, but still, whatever, I'll say no more. My comment actually started out with the intention of humor.

Whole trees pose no fire risk on a campfire when the weather is cold and there is nothing else around but rocks. The tree will go out on it's own when burns past the hot spot of the fire. If you'll notice that the edges just outside the fire aren't even blackened. Safety is always on the back of my mind...probably overkill....just ask Aaron
